ALL WEEK LONG I HAD BEEN DREADING THE ARRIVAL OF FRIDAY, AND now it was only two days away. The date Miss Cindy had gone out on in June had developed into something serious. She had finally fallen in love I couldn't believe it! So this was what she'd needed to talk to me about.

I thought seriously about leaving the "situation" and even talked to Miss Cindy about it.

"Well, do what you have to do, Cissie it's a free country, after all. But I would appreciate you giving me two weeks notice if you go, so I can hire another girl and start training her on how I like things handled, Miss Cindy said, sounding unconcerned.

I sulked around for a few days, but Cindy sat me down Wednesday morning and told me, "Look, Cissie I don't see why you suddenly think my having a serious boyfriend changes anything. I didn't think I'd need to actually say it, but you're my servant, Cissie, and he's my lover. Why do I'm sure you realize a you think that's so incompatible? young woman needs a man, Cissie but I certainly need someone to do the housework and take care of me and my clothes, too!

"Frank knows about you, Cissie," Cindy continued, "In fact, he'd heard rumors about my famous 'male maid' even before we met. He's nervous about this arrangement, but I told him it would all work out. But you better hope he likes you, Cissie, because if it comes down to a choice between you or my boyfriend, I'm afraid you'd lose."

"You have to decide, Cissie, because he's coming to dinner Friday. Let me know today, please!" Miss Cindy demanded.

I slowly did my housework and thought about my options all day. Finally, late Wednesday night while undressing Miss Cindy for bed, I told her I had decided. Even after all the thought, I still couldn't quite believe it as I heard myself say, "I-I'll serve, Miss I'll try to be your maid, still."
